In a genius move, GMC found a simple fix for a big problem regarding the placement of child-restraint systems in trucks. If you're a pickup owner, you may know how difficult - or impossible - it is to fit a child's seat in an extended-cab truck, but the new 2015 Canyon offers a way to elongate its jump seats for easy installation! Autoblog calls it a "pretty darn clever idea to a problem ... fairly common in the world of pickup trucks."
We'll explain more below, but for now check out this video, as it's a bit easier to understand how the process works when you see it with your own eyes. The new feature will be available this fall on the new 2015 GMC Canyon in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Truck owners can now more safely drive small children around thanks to a new innovation recently introduced in the GMC Canyon. When it comes to child's seats, manufacturers specify that a car's backseat cushion must support at least 80 percent of the child's seat base. In many extended-cab pickups, the rear jump seats are shorter, so it's near impossible to properly install a child-restraint system.
GMC's engineers got to thinking that parents who own pickups shouldn't have to deal with this problem any longer, so they came up with a brilliant solution. Their new industry-first jump seat extension will allow parents to remove the backseat headrest and insert it into portholes in the seat cushion, extending it enough to enable safe and proper child-restraint installation.
It's just one new feature you can look forward to when the new 2015 GMC Canyon goes on sale in the Phoenix area this fall at Van Buick GMC!
