2023 GMC Hummer EV Has Over 90,000 Reservations

Anticipation For the 2023 Hummer EV Is High, Garnering Over 90,000 Reservations

The GMC Hummer has a long and fascinating history. The Hummer's origins lie in the M998 Humvee military vehicle. The vehicle was reconfigured as a civilian SUV and first went on sale to the public in 1992. Known for their ruggedness and off-road prowess, the older Hummers consumed a lot of fuel. That's why it's exciting that, for the first time ever, the Hummer will be available in an all-electric configuration. GMC reports that there are already 90,000 reservations for the 2023 Hummer EV.

The 2023 GMC Hummer EV will be available in both SUV and pickup-truck body styles. As always, when something is new, there's a question about how well it will be received. Automakers have traditionally been slow to adapt trucks and SUVs for electric and hybrid technology. GMC's gamble has paid off, as evidenced by the 90,000 reservations for this exciting new vehicle. This is up by about 10,000 from the 80,000 reservations that had been placed by July of 2022. These figures have been confirmed by Rich Latek, GMC's Director of Marketing.

According to GMC, around 90% of these reservations have already been converted into preorders. What's even more interesting is that a high percentage of the preorders are for higher-end, loaded models. Pickup-truck models of the Hummer EV will start production this fall. SUV models will go into production in early 2023, and the entry-level EV2 models will start being produced in the spring of 2024.

The new all-electric Hummer will continue to offer extreme off-road capabilities. As expected, the Hummer EV will offer AWD. It will also come equipped with an independent front and rear suspension. Rear virtual lockers and front e-locks will enhance the vehicle's traction even further. The engineers have also made sure that the HUMMER EV will have the right approach, departure, and breakover angles for maximum off-road capabilities.

Potential buyers need not worry about the power output of the all-electric powertrain. The 2023 Hummer EV will be capable of producing up to 1,000 horsepower in its truck configuration and 830 horsepower for the SUV models. GM estimates that it will be able to produce an impressive 11,500 pound-feet of torque.
