GMC is currently gearing up to launch the all-new 2017 Acadia model in Phoenix, but that doesn’t mean the previous model will be immediately put out to pasture. The brand recently announced they will continue to sell the older Acadia for a limited time, benefiting fans of the outgoing model.
General Motors spokesman Brian Goel was the one to announce GMC’s plan to continue selling both Acadia models. For 2017, the older model will be branded the Acadia Limited in order to differentiate it from the brand-new model. Considering the older model is 17 centimeters shorter than the newer one, it falls into a different segment so there will be no direct competition between the two vehicles.
GMC’s decision to keep selling the older Acadia has to do with manufacturing. The new model is being built at the company’s Spring Hill, Tennessee, plant, whereas the old model was built at the Lansing, Michigan, plant. If GMC decided to stop building the Acadia at the Lansing plant, they would not have a new model to replace it with in order to continue full production at the facility, so they decided to keep building the old Acadia there. Once a new model is put into production, the brand will stop building the outgoing vehicle.
