Every year for over a decade, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation has presented an event known as Native Trails, which features traditional Native American dancing, music and art. Free and recurring most every Thursday and Saturday just outside of Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, the shows are a feast for the eyes and a wonderful way to learn about the customs and culture of southwestern tribes.

The performances are both lively and colorful, with vivid apparel and traditional dances like inter-tribal pow wows and the Southwest Horse Dance. If you’re a fan of Native American jewelry and art, several vendors will have items for sale at the events, as well. Plus food and beverages are always available for purchase, including traditional dishes prepared by White Eyes Fresh Fry Bread.

The events take place from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in Scottsdale Civic Center Park at the corner of Brown Avenue and East Second Street. Performances are taking place now through the beginning of April. Free parking is available at several surrounding locations, including the Civic Center Library Garage and Old Town Parking Corral.

Bring a blanket or lawn chair to the show and enjoy the sights and sounds of Native Trails before performances end this spring.
