For the past 21 years, downtown Phoenix has hosted the Southwest's largest Cinco de Mayo festival, and this year it promises to be just as lively, educational and fun-filled! While the event commemorates Mexico's victory over the French at the historic 1826 Battle of Puebla, it has also become a celebration of Mexican American culture, so get ready to enjoy ballet folklorico and other traditional dance performances, great Mexican food, an exciting Lucha Libre competition, and concerts from popular artists like Los Lobos and Ozomatli!
The Phoenix Cinco de Mayo festival will be held over two days on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4. In addition to the previously mentioned festivities, there will be carnival rides and games, crafting activities, a junior national boxing tournament and a free live stream of the World Boxing Championship title bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana. Additionally, festival organizers will be giving away $100,000 in youth scholarships thanks to donations from event sponsors.
If you would like to attend the Phoenix Cinco de Mayo festival, general admission is only $5 before 5 p.m. and $10 after 5 p.m.; children 12 and under can enter at no charge. Concert tickets are also available for purchase online, along with special VIP tickets.
