The 2017 GMC Acadia is the first-ever car on the market to offer a Rear Seat Reminder system. New this year, the technology is designed to alert drivers of passengers and/or items left in the backseat upon exiting the vehicle.

“Acadia drivers live busy lives with demanding schedules, and the Rear Seat Reminder helps protect the things we care about most,” said Tricia Morrow, GM global safety strategy engineer. “Whether it’s your lunch, laptop, pet or most importantly, your child, it’s easier than it seems to forget what’s in the back seat when moving between life’s events. With this new feature, we are leading the charge to address this ongoing problem.”

Outfitted on 2017 Acadia models, the system works by monitoring the rear doors and activates each time they are opened or closed before the vehicle is started or while it is running. Once the vehicle is turned off following a door activation, audible and visual alerts will notify the driver of items and/or passengers in the rear seat.

A must-have for parents, this new feature will help prevent children from being forgotten in the backseat and deter vehicle thefts prompted by items laid out in the open on the rear seat. You’ll be able to find the new technology on all models aside from the Limited when the 2017 GMC Acadia lands at Van Buick GMC later this year.
