How Does the Service Work?
Whether you are already a great driver or you know you have room for improvement, OnStar Smart Driver is sure to benefit you. It’s available on most vehicles dating from model year 2015 to 2017. This new service works by monitoring your behind-the-wheel behavior, compiling the data and calculating a monthly score report that you can view online at any time. It’s an easy way to see how you are performing, and allows you to track your progress over time.
The service monitors a few different aspects of driving, including:
- Total distance driven
- MPG and MPH number
- Hard acceleration occurrences
- Hard braking incidents
- Time spent driving at high speeds (80 mph & over)
- Time spent idling
What Benefits Does This Service Offer?
Using this data, the service creates a list of helpful tips on how to enhance their skills, maximize efficiency, prevent vehicle wear and tear, and save on money. It also provides a comparison, where drivers can view how they stack up compared to others in the area or with the same vehicle.
Another benefit of the Smart Driver service is that it allows users to enroll in an optional Insurance Discounts Eligibility program. This way, drivers can see if their good driving practices make them eligible for discounts from various insurance companies without revealing any personal information directly to those companies.
